In the German foro's I started a discussion on "double prints' and their explanations.

The German official view is that they are not worth spending much time to them, occur just hap-hazardly and are not really worth mentioning in the Michel catalogues - the German Bible for philatelists.

The various explanations you can read do not convince me at all!

The REAL double prints where both appearances of the image are equally well printed - just in a different position - are probably without discussion anywhere.

Hola.

Saludos,

José,

what exactly do you mean with "remosqueo" and "aleteo"???

When the gummi cylinder in the offset-litho press vibrates in respect to the paper sheet [or reel] there is only a small range involved where you may find a "double Impression" and that range should be axial - parallel to the axis of the cylinder. It can NOT involve a whole stamp or even more!

http://www.offsetprintingtechnology.com/2011/slurring/
One talks of slurring whenever the geometry of the halftone dot changes. The printed image then appears to be displaced. The round halftone dot assumes an oval form. Two kinds of slurring exist – on the one hand, in the

direction of printing (circumferential slurring), and on the other hand, transverse to the direction of printing (lateral slurring). These effects lead to a reduction in quality, and reflect the processing conditions within the group comprising the plate, blanket, and printing cylinders, as well as on other material influences.
That does tell you a lot :)

Bettter is:

http://printwiki.org/Slurring
Slurring

A printing defect characterized by the smearing of the trailing edges of a printed impression, which is typically caused by slippage of the paper, resulting—in offset lithography, for example—from increased pressure between the plate and the blanket or between the blanket and the paper. It can also be caused by using a loose blanket, too soft a blanket, too soft an ink, or by the excessive use of ink. It can also be generated by using deformed paper, such as paper with wavy edges or other distortions. When slurring occurs in halftone images, it is called dot slurring. (See also Doubling.)
In Spanish:

http://www.glosariografico.com/remosqueo

Saludos Guillermo :D

In photogravure there is no double printing, just the flowing of the ink - sometimes heavily - into the direction of printing!

In modern offset-litho printing occasionally you can find nice examples of the vibration!

The gummi cylinder [with the black ink on it] was shaky!

Just a narrow vertical area was involved!
