The 3c Moreno grey is supposed to exist on 3 different papers - according to the 2008 Tabla-general:

- without watermark
- with wavy rays - "Rayado vertical"
- with straight rays - Rayos rectos"

and indeed we find 3 different types of paper: the clearly visible straight rays, the unwatermarked are easy enough to get established!

But how about the 3rd type of paper???? There is a third one - no doubt about - if only because of the horizontal direction of paper whilst all the others have a vertical direction of paper!

But in the column of the "rayado vertical" we only have the 1/2c Belgrano, the 1c Sarmiento, the 5c JSM, the 10c Rivadavia types III/IV and the 20c Torito - all in offset-litho. The 1c, 5c, 10c and 20c I have seen with "rayado vertical" only with a vertical direction of paper!

What about the 1/2c???? Was it still available in 1951??? What about the 3c Moreno grey???

My copies of the 3c with the 3rd type of paper are all from 1947!

to be continued .....

GOOGLE:

..... debe continuar

This paper has a symmetrical wire! Unlike the real "rayado vertical" that has a asymmetrical paper wire.....

Anyhow, this type of paper has a very difficult to recognize structure {watermark, wire].

Tony,

indeed we may split up the unwatermarked in a clearly visbile one and a hardly visible one. In both cases I think the paper is transposed (traspuesta).

In your scans I do not see the paper I was displaying - it is also transposed and reminds me of the 5c Moreno in typo on "mate lustroso". I do not have any 1E3 or 1E4 or 2D either, are we discussing the 3c Moreno or the 3c JSM????

GOOGLE:

Tony,

Hi, Rein:

3c Moreno only. I will verify the watermarks because I looked at these one year ago, before you helped me understand the papers better. The 3c Moreno was issued in 1943 and saw regular use until 1947/48. It should therefore be found on the 2D, 1E3b, 2C, NOP and NGR papers. The 1E4 seems to be a classification error on my part.

Tony,

for those who do not have the codes at hand:

I have not yet seen the 3c Moreno grey with 1E3b as the Tabla suggests. Your scans seem to point to the 1E3b:

What I have found as my third group is neither 1E3b nor 2D!

Being the watermark so hard to recognize it may as well be without watermark and then according to the Clasificacion the 3c Moreno grey is the only medium sized one with that type of paper:

5.3. Papel Satinado Canadiense

I wouldn't mind to call it satinado myself ;) It is a real pity that the Tabla does not mention the "eje de enrollamiento" of the no watermarks!

GOOGLE:

Tony,

But in Somestamps the 1p is certainly not "trama cerrada"- you can see the wire/mesh - also the 5p and the 10p are not on satinado canadiense according to mr Bardi.

Tony,

the "normal" unwatermarked paper has the imprint of the wire/mesh at the front, the back is more or less "closed" but you can still see the mesh both from the back and the front. The confusion for me are the phrases "trama cerrada" next to "difuso". If you cannot see a structure by looking through the paper the structure may still be visible by letting the light fall under a certain angle.

The satinado canadiense as far I can see by the 3c Moreno grey, the 25c and the 30c is that the mesh is not to be seen - nor from the front nor from the back, not by light falling under a certain angle. The back is totally flat, the front has clearly the imprint of fibres plus some shine/gloss, hence the satinado! Mr Bardi distinguishes trama cerrada in 2 forms: basico/comun and satinado canadiense. And furthermore he doesn't tell us the direction of paper (eje de enrollamineto) for these cerradas!

GOOGLE:

Tony,

Rein,

The normal unwatermarked stamp is NGR (No watermark GRid), but there are thick NGRs that have almost no mesh.

Imagen

The NOP (No watermark OPaque) is flat without mesh.

Imagen

----------------------------------

Rein,

Don't know, but I do know that the NOP is easiest to tell apart from the high values, especially the 5 pesos, which is a distinguishable stamp in all aspects.

-------------------------

Hi Rein
Bardi says that the "Sin filigrana Trama Cerrada" or ,as he puts in the table "Común", could be the same as 5.1 Sin Filigrana Grené but with a tamponade of the pores because of the poor quality of the papers. Then we can say it is a variety of Rubiera´s NGR

It is really difficult to get to understand mr Bardi's text without him giving proper pictures. I know it is not easy to make these but at least we should try. The post-PyR I and pre-PyR I periods are awfully neglected. I will continue to describe the post-1945 unwatermarked commemoratives with pictures and start to describe the pre-PyR I orthogonal watermarks also for the definitives ....

Thanks for you reaction anyway!
