Most examples shown here have clearly visible doctor blade flaws that point to the use of photogravure in case you have any doubt! Also the ink is flowing upwards as can be seen from the details...

All photogravure stamps in two colours! Direction of printing either L or R [portrait size] or U [landscape size]. In all cases the "base stamp" has the SAME direction of printing. Judging from the line of "S. Oficial" the ink ALWAYS flows upwards!!

The type of paper used does vary a lot! And is not at discussion in this thread yet....

- 1p Girasol with both L and R
- 2p Sarmiento with L
- 3p Cuesta de Zapata with U
- 5p Tierra del Fuego with U
- 10p Puente del Inca with L
- 20p Nahuel Huapi with L
- 23p Quebracho with R
- 25p Quebracho [colour is red!] with L
- 43p Industry with R
- 45p Industry with L
- 50p J. de San Martin [colour is red!] with L
- 90p G. Brown with L

As said above, there are at least 3 different offset-litho plates involved!

- S.Oficial running parallel to the long side of the stamp [small size] -10c amd 20c Animals
- S.Oficial running parallel to the short side of the stamp - 2p,4p, 8p, 10p and 20p J. de San Martin
- S.Oficial running parallel to the long side of the stamp [medium size] - 2p Sarmiento, 4p and 6p Hernandez, 25p Quebracho, 45 Industry

Let's start with the 10c and 20c Animals:

Am I imagining things when I get the impression the base colour - green - had been printed on top of the S.Oficial?????

Rein escribió:Comparing the various types as the illustrations in the catalogues do not always give enough detail to tell them from each other!

Servicio Oficial in 2 lines:

types I, II and XVI

Servicio Oficial in 1 line:

types III, IV, V, VII, VIII, IX and X

S. Oficial in 1 line:

types VI, XI, XII, XIII, XIV and XV

- Are III and VII really different???

Type IV and type VIII both have no serifs! Type IV is supposed to have a length of circa 23mm and type VIII 25 3/4mm!?!?

Victor Kneitschel made a mistake in his 1974 Catalogue! Both types have a length of about 23mm!

Yet, there are at least two types! One or two for typography [23mm] and one [or two?} for photogravure [23.5mm]...

Type XI does only exist for the 50c Puma and the 10p Puente del Inca!

According to Kneitschel the difference between the 50c and the 10p lies in the characters whether thin or thick!?

We see here the lack of knowledge or lack of interest that concerns the methods of printing! No idea how they were printed or thought to be unimportant?!

The 50c Puma has been printed in a bicoloured offset-litho! It is no so clear as with the 10c and 20c which colour had been printed first!
