What a wondefull investigation, but there is something I was wondering about. These stamps were from steel engraving or from copper plates (galvano)? Because I found they are so different between each other ( hrizontal lines of different thicnesses, sshorter or larger, etc) that make doubt about the method of engraving. Saludos,

José,

I am trying ot get more specific information but if you read my thread

viewtopic.php?f=137&t=9821

you see there must have been 3 different designs [each of which led to several engravings of the specific face values!]

saludos, Rein

P.S.

Feliz Navidad!

Rein,
As you know, I also collect Swiss stamps. Seeing your scans I am sure they do are position dots, but if you consider they are copper plates (it was confirmed by a Swiss friend of mine) I don´t see the reason for the existence of such dots. You see, and showed, the three francs stamp has not such a dots. I would suggest you get in touch with a Switzerland specialist to explain that 'mystery' Since you live closer to England that mine I'd try to consult the Swiss Stamp Collectors Association in England. They are very good people. Saludos,
