The 50c Puma has been printed in a bicoloured offset-litho! It is no so clear as with the 10c and 20c which colour had been printed first!

The 10p Puente del Inca has been printed in a bicoloured photogravure! At least two printings with the direction of printing either U [flow of ink upwards] or D [downwards].

Victor Kneitschel in his 1961 edition:






Bearing in mind that type IV and type VIII had only been used for a few stamps the details about the colour are important! The differences between 23/23 1/4 and 23 3/4 are just what I found!

- 23mm for the typographed "overprint" stamps [VK 557] and 23 1/2mm for the photogravure bicoloured printed stamps [VK 557a and VK570]!




And seen the fact that Kneitschel recognizes several sizes within type IX you may wonder WHY differentiating IV and VIII!

Its length is 23mm but the spacing between the characters is slightly different depending on the size of the stamp [1p, 2p40 versus 10p, 50p] - see "CI "

Dear Rein:
Le comento que en una época, y hasta no hace mucho tiempo, las estampillas de Servicio Oficial no le interesaban a nadie; menos aún los sistemas de impresión con que fueron impresos. Por lo tanto, no se extrañe sobre la poca dedicación que en los catálogos le dan a estas emisiones. Estas estampillas están tomando valor recien en nuestros tiempos.
Por lo tanto, paciencia.

Aprovecho para mostrarle una perlita ya que mencionó los valores de 50c Puma. Se habla de sobrecarga gruesa y delgada como si fueran distintas, sin embargo, observando una plancha completa de 200 sellos, podrá distinguirse a ambas en el mismo pliego. en las columnas 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, y 9 las sobrecargas son gruesas, y el las columnas 5 y 10 son delgadas. Que sean la 5ta y la 10ma no es extraño teniendo en cuenta la matriz de impresión utilizada.

This stamp I had mentioned earlier here in this Foro has not been catalogized as no one has seen that it was in photogravure [Servico Oficial] and its length was more than 23mm!

Somewhere during this period - 01.04.1958 - August 1959 - a new cylinder was made -probably with two tête-bêche panes of 10x10!

We find directions of printing L [ink flowing towards the left] and R [towards the right].

The base stamps with the second cylinder for the "SERVICIO OFICIAL" were due to follow! Also in photogravure! And with the saem direction of printing!

For the Servicio Oficial - sans serif version in blue photogravure - we find both directions of printing: L [ink flowing towards the left] and R [towards the right] too:

N.B. both colours [brown and blue] have the same direction of printing!

Probably the same cylinder for the "SERVICIO OFICIAL" [type VIII, 23.5mm] but with BLUE ink!

You made it clear that the distinction between thin and thick characters is not so much a distinction between the 50c Puma and the 10p Puente del Inca but can already be found inside the printings of the 50c Puma as the columns 1-4 have a thicker type and column 5 a thinner! The root block being reproduced for the columns 6-9 and 10 gives as a result a thinner type in column 10!
