The variety of coated papers mentioned in the CEFILOZA catalogue is fully justified! However, how to tell them apart???

The CdM watermarks come in 3 waves!

Wave ONE:

(04) 1969 Airmail 40p, 68p; UIT and Scientists [apart from several values in the P&R definitives!]

Wave TWO:

(05) - (07) 1975-1976 (1977):

27.09.1975 Airforce (07)
25.10.1975 Infrastructura (06) ; Uruguay (06)
13.12.1975 Hospital de Ninos (05), (06) , (07)
20.12.1975 Provinces (05), (06), (07)
22.05.1976 Braille (06), (07)

16.07.1977 Filatelia 20p (07 RARE!)

Wave THREE:

(08)

All offset-litho stamps issued between 17.04.1982 and 28.05.1983 - including the combined recess+offset-litho printed North East Provinces of 18.09.1982

By breaking up in groups (often chronologically) of types of paper it may be getting clearer how to recognize them!

Other definitives have not been take into account yet!

It is getting closer and closer to completion which does not mean we have to take good care!

The 1892 stamps did NOT have a watermark [filigrana] but a controll mark in various sizes.....

The San Martin in oval has two types of paper for the rayos rectos!

The granulado and the Tela!

The Tela has been found in all series that had the German paper delivered by Schadd&Körtelung from Hamburg:

The 1908 JSM en ovalo set had been printed on thin paper with watermark rayos ondulados for most values, but on paper with watermark rayos rectos [thicker paper] for the 1/2c, 1c ochre, 6c, 20c, 24c and 50c!

All these 6 values exist with Tela!!!

NB the blue lines coming from one corner always reach the opposite side BEFORE the other corner! The Tela, however, will have blue lines from corner to corner!

What goes for the San Martin also goes for the 1911 Sarmiento!

The granulado:

quite traditional angles - for the blue diagonal lines: -57 and +57 degrees!

different angles - for the blue diagonal lines: -50 and +50 degrees that go with the density of 24/22 instead of 30/20 !

It is really a great thing that 10 out 11 volumes are (more or less) ready!

Congratulations!

But, in the P&R series there are 3 MAJOR omissions having to do with the 5c Moreno and the 10c Rivadavia. All was here to be read in this great Foro and apparently Carlos Gomez and his crew overlooked it!

How long will it take to accept that the 12c greenish blue by Bradbury WIlkinson had NOT been printed in typography but in recess!?

I mentioned it several times:

detail of my copy:

This much neglected stamp has been the subject of a long tradition of philatelists NOT using their eyes or magnifying glasses but having an unbroken belief in what has been written in successive catalogues for more than 120 years now from one copy-cat to another:

Can we not see the delicate lines of engraving in the scroll of "Argentina" and the nerves of the leaves ?

Imagen

Imagen

Can we not see the first horizontal line not touching the branch in the upper right corner??? or the delicate parallelogrammes in between the sun-rays??

In the GJ '09 catalogue on the pages 55-57 we find the "Dibujo de una carta" typographed by Bradbury Wilkinson, London; the numbers 63+65 refer to the 12c ultramar that is to have the "sin colita" in 10 out of the 100 stamps of a sheet.

If the number 66 12c azul verdoso would be just a different colour, the use of a different ink whilst still with the same plates, the colita would be there as well. And of course there would NOT be the pointed-out above differences, wouldn't it??

Even if you can not belief that the azul verdoso was printed in recess by Bradbury Wilkinson; and even if you can not find evidence in the Archives, then still the many differences in design between the 12c ultramar and the 12c azul verdoso deserve to be mentioned....

From Buzones to Rein:

Hallo Rein,

The Kohl-Handbook of 1926 does refer to the Pantograph process for the typographed stamps! It does mention the recess printing for the 12c! Also with the Pantograph?!

Note, the reference to a sheet-perforation 12! Not a comb-perforation?!
