Offset-litho "circles" - a "spanjool" or "español

A real UFO!

No, this is what we call in Dutch a "Spanjool" [español]. The stamps have been printed in 4-colour offset-litho. The ink of the colour - let's say the cyan [blue] - has been transferred via a rubber cylinder on to the paper. When the rubber cylinder has dust [or other tiny objects] on it this object will be pressed deeper in the rubber cylinder and around it there will be a moat that will not give ink! And that is what we see - the object and its moat! These things have nothing to do with a flaw on the form cylinders - one moment it is there on the rubber cylinder, the next moment it is gone [or moved on a bit ....]

En estas devaluadas décadas del 60 y 70 he encontrado algunas marcas -como ser- círculos, puntos negros, etc. Algunas como el círculo o anillo se repiten en otros sellos. Se las muestro para ver si alguno tiene algo similar o si fueron realizadas por algún "creador" de variedades.

Gracias Rein, entiendo. Me parecía algo extraño ese círculo que se repetía en varios sellos. Es una basura que puede desaparecer o correrse de sitio. ´

the Dutch fought an independence war against the Spanish in 1568-1648 - the 80 Years War - and later on when our offset-litho printers observed an unwanted phenomenon on their prints they called it after the unwanted persons of our history....
