The 23p Quebracho has been mentioned in the catalogues with 3 types of paper:

- mate nacional
- mate importado - blando and duro
- tizado importado

Let's see what we can display:

Parallel watermark, vertical direction of paper, asymetrical paper wire, probably described as imported paper:





all the other types have an orthogonal watermark!

Now the orthogonal papers, that have an asymmetrical paper wire most of them:

First the uncoated with a horizontal direction of paper!

No coating, orthogonal watermark, horizontal direction of paper, asymetrical paper wire, direction of paper parallel to the short side of the stamp "m"- probably described as imported paper as well:







You can hardly see any watermark in the second stamp!

The Servicio Oficial is NOT an overprint!



It is a stamp that has been printed like a bicoloured one! You can see the photogravure screen dots in the black printing and also the ink running down [i.e. in the stamp the ink runs towards the right!]

It also has got NOTHING to do with double impressions !

The 23p Quebracho we displayed so far had been on "imported paper", what I have not mentioned yet is the so-called national paper!

It looks like the so-called national paper only exists with a symmetrical paper wire!

If I am understanding mr Bardi right, the sun is too big for the national papers! The larger sun AND the symmetrical paper mesh may indeed be an imported paper!

It seems in that context that this paper is the so called "papel blando" whereas the parallel watermark is the "papel duro"!

The time is right as well! December 1965! Now we know that this is the German paper from Kupferschmidt!!

Comparing the 2 stamps, the first has a much smaller sun! And might be - according to the instructions of mr Bardi - be the national paper!

So far we know - and that took some time - that we have FOUR types of paper:

A - Zárate paper, uncoated, orthogonal watermark, Asymmetrical paper wire structure, direction of paper horizontal! The back of the stamp (but also at times the front) shows long lines parallel tot he direction of paper! Mate Nacional

B - Wiggins Teape paper, uncoated, parallel watermark, Asymmetrical paper wire structure, direction of paper vertical! Mate Importado Duro

C - Zárate paper, coated, orthogonal watermark, asymmetrical paper wire structure, direction of paper horizontal! Tizado Nacional

D - Kupferschmidt paper, uncoated, orthogonal watermark, symmetrical paper wire structure, direction of paper verticall! Mate Importado Blando

A-paper was issued on 15.06.1965.

Dario Bardi refers in his book to the 4 papers but got mixed a bit:



There is not much difference between the blando and duro as far as the frequency goes! Duro is sligtly more scarce but not that much!

With the Tizado's the "M" version - having the line of AЯ run vertically - is NOT scarce, it is rather common! The "m" version with the the line of AЯ run horizontallly is FAR from common!

The first two types of paper - mate nacional and mate importado duro - hardly show any plate flaws! I found ONLY ONE:



and that one is not conspicuous - you may easily take it for a smear of ink! The one at the left is on "duro" the two at the right are on mate nacional!
