APS Swedish perforating machine = lawn mower

Mensaje por Rein »

The lawn mower type perforation machine got well known due to its use in the production of the UK Machin stamps!

Elsewhere http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=7580 it was described as:
Aktiebolaget Produktion Service (APS): Swedish perforating machine that made pimples, which were then cut away in a lawn mower type action leaving perforated holes.
The APS type perforation found a wide use mainly in the combination of photogravure reel-fed presses. A typical feature of the perforation is the left-overs at the back of the stamp!

The German Bundesdruckerei in Berlin acquired a reel-fed offset-litho press in late 2000. The press could print 6 colours in offset-litho plus one colour in flexo-print. The APS unit provided for the perforation! Also in-line die-cutting and kiss-die-cutting was possible!

The first stamp of Germany printed with that machine was the 500th birthday anniversary of Leonhart Fuchs [11.01.2001]

Years later the 2008 Joint Issue with Switzerland got printed on that press:
