The series of 1955 has the stamps printed in recess like the 50c, 3p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p.

J. Holler refers to several colour shades and 2 different perforations for some face values. Also the types of paper are hardly described.



Let's stick for a while to the 5p as it turns out to have at least 3 types of paper combined with 2 types of perforation:

Comb perforation 13.182: 13.529 29/23 teeth hor./vert.:

- orthogonal watermark, asymmetrical paper mesh, direction of paper runs parallel to the long side of the stamp:




- parallel watermark, asymmetrical paper mesh, direction of paper runs parallel to the long side of the stamp:




Comb perforation 13.666: 13.529 30/23 teeth hor./vert.:

- orthogonal watermark, asymmetrical paper mesh, direction of paper runs parallel to the long side of the stamp:




- parallel watermark, asymmetrical paper mesh, direction of paper runs parallel to the short side of the stamp:




All types of paper are imported!

So far the best we can find in print about the P&R II can be found in the book published by Dario Bardi shortly before his untimely death:



So apart from the uncoated Wiggins Teape paper with a parallel watermark we have the coated type of paper of Wiggins Teape having the parallel watermark! According to Bardi one is rayado vertical and the other is Tela depending on the comb perforation?!

The Wiggins Teape paper with an orthogonal watermark is supposed to be the most common in both perforations!

The Wiggins Teape parallel watermark with coated paper has a remarkable feature! Black threads all over the back of the stamp:

On the other hand looking for the diagonal lines it indeed looks rather like Tela!!! Number of teeth vertically: 29
