Should you understand German:
http://www.germania-marken.de/fach/druck.html
It does not tell you about the extra frame for the 2, 3 and 5pf!
The booklet by A. Knop does!

Michel arranged the Germania issue in several groups not all of them chronologically..
- 1 - 1900 Reichspost with 3 subtypes and substantially different from the next group:
- 2 - 1902 Deutsches Reich also with 3 subtypes
The first subtype for the 2, 3 and 5pf as shown above, the second subtype for the 10 and 20pf, and the 3rd subtype in two colours for the 25, 30, 40, 50 and 80pf.
- 3 - 1905 Deutsches Reich on paper with watermark rhombs and the same 3 subtypes as before.
The 60pf stamps does not really belong here since it was issued in 1911 and the bicolour 75pf got issued in 1919.
A special problem is - i.e. the German philatelists made it a problem - the so-called Peace vs War printings from 1915 onwards!?!
It is supposed to have to do with the types of paper used and not so much with the printing plates. The "Peace printings" are said to have calandered paper whereas the "War printings" have a rough surface??
I wonder whether anyone had some idea about types of paper then...
For the War printings all face values are supposed to have been around but for the 2pf. However, in 1918, a 2pf in yellow grey was printed.
-4 - from 1916 onwards Deutsches Reich - no horizontal lines!
To start with: the 2 1/2 and the 7 1/2pf; 15pf yellow brown. My 2 1/2pf stamp has a very calendered surface at the front and is unused. Peace printing?
In 1917 a 15pf with change of colour: violet. Later on in 1920 in reddish brown. In 1919 the 35pf.
According to the Michel philosophy the chronology determines their listing and their grouping. But what is the sense of having so many groups (IV-VII)??

5 - from 1920 onwards - changes of colours and new face values:
5 brown; 10 orange, 20 green, 60 olive; and then the "bicoloured" (i.e. the same colour used with 2 plates): 40 red, 50 lilac, 70 lilac and 80 blue! Later (?) printed in one colour with just one plate!!
The Marke face values: bicoloured 1M, 1 1/4 M, 2M and 4M
- 6 - 1921 Overprints of the 5pf brown - 1,60 M ; of the the 75pf green/black - 5M and 10M ; of the 1 1/4 M - 3M.
- 7 - 1922 printed on paper with the watermark honeycoomb: 75pf carmine ; 1 1/4 M (no change of colour combination)
But the 75pf had been bicoloured before that! How about the "monocolourede" 75pf? Just one plate??
