Coloured fibers in Swiss stamps

In the 1882 definitives series with the Swiss Cross we first meet a stamp paper that has lots of coloured fibers!

Do we read the Zumstein Special Catalogue carefully we may conclude that from April 1st, 1882 onwards the stamps with coloured fibers were available but that somehow remnants of paper sheets without coloured fibers had been used for the new definitives as well. They are enlisted separately ahead of the stamps with coloured fibers and judging by their catalogue values they are not so common...

The red and blue fibers are SIDEWAYS!

The different orientation of the coloured fibers is something you will not find in this specialized catalogue!!!

Rein,
Swiss stamps with with the cross wmk are printed on the same paper but with different orientations ( eje de enrollamiento horizontal or vertical). Perhaps that causes the orientation of the fibers. José

José,

the direction of paper and the orientation of the coloured fibers are directly connected!! The stamps show here do not have a watermark! They have a controll-mark like the Argentina 1892 Zárate paper.

In the case of the Swiss Cross watermark it is the alignement of the crosses!

Rein, you are quite right! But bear in mind that that paper (cross in oval wmk) has a kontrollmark applied AFTER the paper was made. For me the orienttion of the fibers depend on howthe sheets were cut from the reel. In our 1917 San Martín stamps the orientation pf the hexagons were determined precisely to the format and size of sheets cut from a larger sheet.
I would like to had that I have copies where you can see that kontrollmrk applied on the printd side of the paper.

José,

the Swiss catalogues do not give much information!

It is obvious to me that the controll-mark can be applied either at the back of the stamp or either at the front!!!

I hope to show you here one at the front!
