My renewed interest for this series has arisen from the fact that in 1911 a German paper had been used - for the 1911 Death of D.F. Sarmiento and for all values of the "En Ovalo" series with Rayos Rectos [straight rays]!

The above mentioned stamps have a hitherto unknown type of paper - with Tela instead of the usual Granulado as the paper mesh!

The Labrador series started - for the typographed - per 04.12.1911! Some values may have the Tela as well since both the German paper with Rayos Rectos as the Rayos Ondulados are known for the Labrador series!

All the above stamps with grooves/surcos either on the front or on the back had been printed on German paper!

But that must have been obvious by the look of the hexagonos!

German versus Italian hexagonal watermarks

Looking at the back of the stamps the hexagonal watermarks can be seen from some distance!

However, looking at the back from a closer distance - magnifying glass at a few centineters away - you will see NO watermark in the case of German paper, whereas with Italian paper you can easily follow the outlines of the haxagones as the fibres are more overtly present in these outlines!
