Satinado + sol ovalado?

In the new GJ '09 a lot Argentinean stamps have had assigned as their stamp paper "papel satinado con filigrana ovalado".

I have already pointed out that the term in itself is utterly wrong in this context. But if the usage of the term is consistent within the catalogue at least we can have some mutual understanding

The mentioning of it can be found in stamps issued in 1950/1951 and from there on into the early 1960-ies.

What makes the "satinado con filigran sol ovalado" so different from the "tizado con filigrana sol redondo"?????

Why are these differences - if they are real????!!!! - so important in Argentina philately?

The "papel satinado, filigrana sol ovalado" - or rather "elliptical sun" (BTW, why is everybody mixing up oval with elliptical???? Does the sun look like an egg ???) - is indeed a separate type of paper! There should be no doubt about it!

Moscatelli calls it "Tizado tipo D" :



and as the width and the height of the sun are quite different [10-11.5] it would be alright to call it elliptical!

This type of paper did arrive in Argentina in 1951 and left by the end of 1963!

The earliest mentioning of this type of paper is for the PyR I series:

769 50c
771A 2p

all described as "papel tizado delgado (satinado)", however

877 1p Antártida was described "papel satinado, filigrana sol ovalado"

Why different terms for the same type of paper???? Why an "A" number for some and not a separate number in the range??










They all have in common that there is a orthogonal watermark, the paper wire is asymmetrical; there is a very thin layer or coating that has a very smooth effect - no wrinkles, no cracks; the paper is really thin - 65-70μ ! And on top of it there is some varnish applied but it is not dominant! The coating itself is matt...

¿Por qué términos diferentes para el mismo tipo de papel???? ¿Por qué un número "A" para algunos y no un número separado de la gama??



Todos ellos tienen en común que hay una marca de agua ortogonales, el cable es asimétrico de papel, hay una capa muy fina o de revestimiento que tiene un efecto muy suave - sin arrugas, sin grietas, el papel está muy finas - 65-70μ! Y encima de él hay algo de barniz aplicado, pero no es dominante! El recubrimiento en sí mismo es mate ...
