1963 Airmail stamps

Mensaje por Rein »

Thanks to Pablo Echevarría we have a practical list of the various airmail stamps that were introduced in 1963. The catalogues do not tell us much about their types of paper. That is a pity as we may discover a lot in our own collection or in our spares we have not pay too much attention to!

The first issue of 1963 only has national paper but in at least 2 types! As the Airmails are beyond the chronological range of the PyR I series and as they are not considered to be part of the PyR II/III for some reason, the types of paper had been heavily neglected.

Bardi's ZA 4 - granulado vertical comes close to the first type of paper used for the Airmails of 1963! But most prominent in many collections will be a second type of Zárate paper that does not have a symmetrical paper wire and is not ZA 3 either. Most characteristic of this type of paper are the many vertical lines to be seen at the back of the stamps that may suggest that the paper has been plied. I haven't been able to make proper scans yet, but when you keep the stamps so they are in "portrait" position you can fail to see a lot of "horizontal" lines, very irregularly, not always are lnog as the width of the stamp! Let's call it ZA 5

to be continued ....
