General Gouvernement stamps with TWO types of paper!!

Mensaje por Rein »

The original Polish stamps that were overprinted in 1940 for the General Gouvernement had TWO different types of paper that had not been described by philatelists so far!
Also the stamps without GG overprint are likely to be found with both types of paper! Neither in Germany nor in Poland had there been any publication!

This type of paper had a symmetrical wire structur which is nothing special for the 1860-1938 period, note the diagonals with an angle of about 60 degrees!

Argentina collectors would call it granulado!

The angle of 70 degrees is quite unusual! So far I have only seen it in stamps of Belgium in the 1930-ies!

According to the Polish Handbook of the 1960-ies there is ONLY ONE type of paper with which all later issues got printed!

On page 271 of Volume I:

Just ONE type of paper made in the PWPW papermill - white, smooth, thick paper!

But it also reads "zasadniczo" i.e basically whatever that is supposed to mean!? ;)
