I still have my doubts and maintain the above request although I realize a scan might not help much!

The right-hand stamp is a lot thicker as you have measured AND it is a mint stamp with full gum so it may not curl at all or slightly along the long axis. And that does NOT necessarily mean the direction of paper is along the long axis!!!! I have had my doubt about many gummed stamps and eventually had the gum removed to find out the curling had tricked me..... Only by magnifying the uncovered surface we may see the preference of the fibres better and unfortunately I have not been able to make good scans that can show us that

I made a quick survey of that period:

axis is short side of stamp - "m":

1964 Folklore festival; Orcadas; Neubery, Brochero *; Tokio; NU; Gonzales; Roca *
1965 Tierra del Fuego; Espacio; Aeronautica; Escritores; Policia; Dario *

axis is long side of stamp - '"M":

1964 Brochero *; Tokio lisiados; Roca *;
1965 Yrigoyen; Cagliero; Dante; Chubut; Ley 1420; Dario *; Esquiu

Most stamps have an orthogonal watermark except: Yrigoyen; Cagliero; Chubut. Seems that they are the remainders of imported paper.

In 3 stamps both directions are there on orthogonal watermark: Brochero; Roca and Dario, all in photogravure!!! None are mentioned in the catalogues..... I will make scans today!
