Wiggins Teape paper - indents no grooves!

The type of paper introduced around 1925 by Wiggins Teape, UK, often had a parallel watermark with very cdear rhombic indents visible from the back of the stamps!



When you pay a good look you will see just the Indents and NO grooves, whereas in the beginning [1926] the grooves are dominant!





The "just indents" version may have been introduced in 1927....

Rein. I read somewhere that the wire mesh should be cleaned after a determined time for it accumalates tinniest fibers and mineral charge in ssome papers, thus yeilding a smooth wire surface that does not leave indents in the paper, only grooves.

It isa the other way around here - just indents no grooves [reflecting the fibers] after cleaning. Lack of indents AND grooves might indicate the wire being fully stuck with material but then hardky leaving any water through.

Could be true, but it is typical for English papers that they seem to have cleant the wires all the time [Samuel Jones, Wiggins Teape]....

Rein: under the wire mesh there is a lot of devices destined to to get a fast water draining, vacuum pumps included. So if the mesh is stuck water will be finally drained.
