Matias,
if an olive-green should exist? And why always trust a catalogue! That what you have surely is an olive-green! You may always have the doubt that your stamps are not the colour the catalogue-makers had in mind
But I would not give a damn. The olive-green is in your collection and enjoy!!!!!

Re: 10 c. Sin Punto - Pt. 302a Verde Oliva
In 1939 due to changes of the postage rates certain stamps changed colours:
viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3035&p=21494&hilit ... int#p21494
Our catalogues do not mention that fact, just list the colour changed stamps without comments. The definitives - per definition - are likely to have more than one type of paper, and several shades of colour. Why picking out just one of these shades?
This is a general problem for stamp collectors, especially those who collect 19th century stamps, as catalogues dump loads of colours and shades upon the collector, forcing them to collect them or otherwise you will not have a complete colllection of the Deutsches Reich, France, Belgium, the US etc.....
That is why I said "do not believe catalogues!", "do not trust them!" Catalogues do NOT inform us, they want to sell stamps they are likely to get and be able to sell. Stamps that will not give them profit will not appear in their catalogues! Stamp collectors are blind for that fact of life.....

Matias,
aren't you a bit unfair to yourself???

Judging from the scan the 2nd stamp has a horizontal direction of paper which would make it an Austrian rather than an Englishman!

your remark only proves that what seems to be a simple question by Matias, is not quite so innocent!
It is not enough to have a stamp with the colour olive, you need to have a stamp with the line of AЯ parallel to the long side of the stamp. And even that is not enough as the direction of paper [eje de enrollamiento] can be important! If that direction is horizontal than we have an Austrian if the direction is vertical we have an Englishman or a Dutch! How to tell a Dutch from an Englishman???? You only know one stubborn Dutchman
That brings me back to my point that you can NOT trust the catalogues. They simply do not give you the necessary information upon which you can decide whether we have an Olive here!!!

In an outrage to punish me for their xenophobia they mixed up this thread about the "Oliva" terribly, leaving one thread without my cardinal remarks and this thread without the original questions of Matias!
What is an Oliva 10c JSM??? How to recognize it at first sight!? That is the question!?Matías » 13 Mar 2010 00:22 escribió:

A meritorious answer at last:
Indeed you can not always trust the colours you see in the scans displayed in the internet AND Jorge referred to the orientation of the watermark with a line of AЯ almost always running parallel to the long side of the stamp!jorgec » 13 Mar 2010 10:59 escribió:Matias, es muy dificil juzgar matices por Internet.

So there is MORE than one version! Two different orientations of the watermark and various thicknesses of the papers. The prices are relatively high!Rein » 13 Mar 2010 15:15 escribió:

José Merlo referred once more to the orientation of the watermark:
the watermark is that of the 1st block [EXFIBA 17.10.1935] and of some of the 1930 Revolution stamps. The imperforate stamps of the block being "verde gris"!Otin » 26 Apr 2010 21:40 escribió: Matías:

Hi every one
May be that catalogues are not so explicit in treating the varieties! May be, only in some varieties, they should explain a little more. May be just a point of view.
But what Im sure is that this not the way to discuss between us.
We are, sorry, You are very clever people, so you can explain better this situation.
The question of Matias is very similar to mines... so if there is a question fo this type... the concept of Rein for the catalogues is right. If someone asked for a colour type is because the cataloges are not enough for us to clearly view de variety. They are poor in explanations. So the answer would be, first explaing how to recognize this color, second, telling not to trust in catalogues, third ... cheering for the posibility to be here changing information, teaching, learning...
We are beyond catalogues, at this time we need the knowledge and experience of our partners.
Don't argue for nothing. Learn not just what we need for philately, but what we need to grow as a comunity.
Thanks
Sergio
We are a brotherhood!!! We are a kind!!!

Re: 10 c. Sin Punto - Pt. 302a Verde Oliva
Sergio,
thank you very much for your encouraging words!
We need the expertize of everybody who is interested in this matter. Establishing a good guide for the recognition of this particular colour shade under the condition that we also describe all the OTHER shades of the 10c "green".
We need to know exactly which type of paper has been used in combination of EACH particular shade of green and that includes the various orientations of the watermarks AND their other characteristics (diameter of the Sun) as already recgonized by our colleagues in Lomas de Zamora.
Only together we may get to the bottom of it! Or rather getting on top of it!
A small step in that direction lies in the hands of the moderators to make possible that we can discuss it in ONE thread, not TWO.
